Fruits should be taken in the morning on an empty stomach, not after the meal or as dessert. Fruits for breakfast helps you to kick-start the day and prevents you from infections and health risks.

Renowned nutritionist, Dr Roopali said, " Fruits are the best snacks in between the meals, it is low in calories, and high in minerals like sodium and potassium. It helps you battle those voracious hunger pangs."

There is also a myth, spread all over the internet by some websites. The myth claims that eating fruits with your meal causes slow digestion. If the meal is heavy, so it will take time to digest in contrast to the fruits which digests at a faster rate if eaten alone. So according to the myth, the food item acts as a blockage to your fruit and thus the fruits sit in the stomach and mixes with the acids and starts rotting/fermentation.

Well, it is completely true that the fibre in fruits can slow down the release of food from the stomach, but the rest of the mentioned things are completely fake.

Yes, fruits can slow down the digestion process, it does not block the passage of food from the stomach and fruits never rots in the stomach due to this particular reason.

Some experts don't believe in the idea of eating fruits at morning. According to them," There is no time to get good nutrition." That means you can have them at any time you want unless you have some specific goals like weight loss or diabetic patient. But fruits should not be consumed just before going to bed. Not only fruits, but nothing should be consumed at night before sleeping.

If you are a diabetic patient, then you must take care of your timings because fruits contain sugar and may raise your blood sugar level. If you are on a weight loss program then its best advised having fruits either 30 minutes before the meals or between the meals as fibres will make you feel full. And fruits slow down the digestion process which will ultimately help you in less intake of calories.

    • Don't have it later than: 4 pm
    • Remarks: An ideal gap between Breakfast and Lunch is 4 hrs.
  • Dinner
    • Ideal Time: 6- 9 pm
    • Don't have it later than:  10 pm
    • Remarks: The meal should be at least 3 hrs before you sleep.
